BuddeComm Intelligence Report - 5G Global Trends and Leading Regional Countries - 2017

Synopsis

The emerging 5G technology has attracted intense interest from the ICT industry and wider community due to its potential to increase opportunities for applications like M2M communications and enhanced mobile broadband services.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has research underway towards a global standard. While it is expected that the full standardization process won’t be completed until around early 2020 – we will begin to see a clearer picture of what 5G entails over during the next year or so as some countries launch initial services and trials.

In the meantime, BuddeComm’s Senior Analysts have identified the 21 countries it currently sees as leading at a regional level in terms of 5G development, with countries represented from Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. In the emerging markets of Latin America, the South Pacific and Africa there is still very little significant activity in the 5G area taking place.

This report explores and analyses the current progress of 5G technology and its potential uses and applications. In addition, the report identifies the top 21 leading regional countries worldwide and provides an overview of the mobile market in each country and outline of 5G activity.

Key development:

  • Countries which are progressing with 5G also have well established LTE networks.
