Synopsis

Archived report. This report was archived in 2008 and has not been updated since. The number of Internet users has more than doubled since the year 2000, and now, in 2006, it is available to over one billion people worldwide. In Europe, more than 40% of individuals use the Internet at least once a week, while half of all households have access to Internet services. The majority of enterprises also have access to Internet, many with broadband. The broadband market expanded rapidly in Europe since 2002, and some European countries have among the highest take-up levels around the world. In the Middle East, great strides have been made in improving Internet connectivity and consequently, Internet usage has been growing at an enormous rate, particularly in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Yemen. Africa however, remains the least connected continent in the world both in terms of the total bandwidth feeding the entire continent and from an Internet penetration perspective. However Internet uptake has increased from less than 500,000 users in 1995 to around 33 million in early 2006. This report provides an overview and statistics on the Internet market for EMEA, including Europe, Middle East and Africa.
