Turkey’s privatised incumbent Turk Telekom, continues to maintain its dominance in the fixed market which is undergoing transformation centred on the roll-out of fibre deployment. However, at the end of Q1 2016 there was a noticeable decline in Turk Telekom’s market share in terms of local and national fixed calling, with the alternative operators rapidly gaining ground on the incumbent. Turkcell’s Superonline is also rolling out fibre networks. Turkey’s mobile sector continues to move forward with 4G LTE networks launched in April 2016 and interest beginning to arise in 5G development. Turkey’s communications market holds much potential given the size of its population, which is characterised as young and increasingly urbanised and technically literate. This report provides an introduction to Turkey’s regulatory environment, significant fixed line operators as well as the country’s national and international fixed-line market and infrastructure. It also provides key telecoms industry statistics for Turkey.
