Lithuania’s small but sophisticated mobile market is served by mobile network operators Omnitel, Bite and Tele2, as well as a number of MVNOs. SIM card penetration is extremely high although actual mobile user penetration is lower. Most users use prepaid services although the proportion of prepaid users is falling, suggesting increased take up of postpaid services. High-speed 3G and HSDPA mobile data services are available and combined GPRS, EDGE and 3G subscribers grew by 44% during 2006 with SMS and MMS usage also posting healthy annual increases. Promising developments are underway in the mobile commerce (m-commerce) market, easing the way for future widespread take up through use of common standards. This report provides an overview of the Lithuania’s highly-developed mobile market, covering the major operators, regulatory developments, mobile technologies and services on offer.
