More and more tele-communities developments are now based on fibre networks. On a larger scale, Bright in Perth was the first major roll out perhaps too early for its time, it was abandoned in 2007. In November 2006 the TasCOLT FttH project in Tasmania was officially launched. First trial users were connected to the test network by the end of November 2007. R&D and University networks are also progressing.
