More than 600 telecommunications licences have been awarded by the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), of which around 5% were in the Facilities-Based Operators category. The boom in licensing since 2000 has been the result of a hugely liberalised market and government policy that has strongly supported a progressive regulatory regime. This report looks at some of the major players and a selection of other entrants in this dynamic, constantly changing environment. Singapore Telecom (SingTel) is clearly still viewed as a formidable player and has been busy developing new strategies, including regional expansion, as it adapts to the changing nature of the business.
