Vodacom Group (Pty)

Synopsis

Vodacom is controlled by South African fixed-line incumbent, Telkom SA, with minority shareholder Vodafone Group plc. Vodacom provides GSM mobile services in South Africa, Tanzania, Lesotho, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique. Its launch in Zambia has been delayed by litigation from the incumbents in that country. In South Africa it is the leading mobile provider. It has contributed to national access by installing community payphone units in under-serviced areas throughout the country.

"Paul, May I congratulate you on a very successful and enjoyable afternoon with the Minister. In providing the roundtable discussions between government and industry, it highlighted the strong interest by stakeholders in Broadband and its implementation but it also presented us with other issues and opportunities that we need to address."
