Synopsis
The UK is one of the largest and most advanced mobile markets in Europe. Four service providers operate, and 3G licences were issued at the height of the dot com boom and 3G hype, generating over £22 billion for the government and shackling the licensees with enormous debt. Around three quarters of UK homes have a mobile phone in addition to their fixed phone, corresponding to a mobile phone penetration of 85%, or 53.2 million in 2003. In addition, about three in five UK businesses use mobile phones. This report presents research on the overall market, and the business and consumer mobile phone markets.
