United Kingdom - Content and E-services

Synopsis

Archived report: this report was archived 11 July 2005 and has not been updated. This report brings together a range of research and statistics relating to the state of the British online services sector in 2004, including developments in e-commerce, e-government, e-education, e-health, and content in the form of VoD. The Office of the E-Envoy (OeE) was set up at the height of the dot com boom in 1999 with a wide ranging remit to promote the ‘e-agenda’ and it co-ordinates e-government services. Marking the changing emphasis of the Internet economy, with e-commerce migrating from exceptional to everyday, the government has replaced this function with the promotion and monitoring of e-Government – the process of putting citizens’ services and administration online.

"Paul, May I congratulate you on a very successful and enjoyable afternoon with the Minister. In providing the roundtable discussions between government and industry, it highlighted the strong interest by stakeholders in Broadband and its implementation but it also presented us with other issues and opportunities that we need to address."

Dominic Schipano, CITT
