United Kingdom - Content and E-services - E-commerce Overview

Synopsis

Archived report: this report was archived on September 2003 and has not been updated. The report brings together a range of research and statistics demonstrating the state of the British e-commerce sector in 2003. The UK e-commerce market has grown well, with more companies buying and selling online than the EU average, and over half of all Internet users making a purchase online. Government policies have supported e-commerce, and as Internet access has become cheaper, e-commerce has grown in tandem with the country’s Internet market. In May 2003, the Government announced the timetable for regulating spam.

"Paul, May I congratulate you on a very successful and enjoyable afternoon with the Minister. In providing the roundtable discussions between government and industry, it highlighted the strong interest by stakeholders in Broadband and its implementation but it also presented us with other issues and opportunities that we need to address."
