The British broadcasting sector is one of the most advanced in the world, with free-to-air TV, pay TV, and digital TV offerings. With a history dating back to 1936, the country has fiver free-to-air channels, including the respected BBC, and arguably the most successful satellite pay TV operator BSkyB. This archived report profiles the major broadcasters in the UK in 2003, including the free-to-air channels, major cable and sky TV broadcasters, and the newest digital terrestrial TV company. Free-to-air production was consolidating in 2003-04 as the Government approved the merger of Carlton and Granada.
