Synopsis
US fixed-line subscribers continued to decline during 2008, while wireless subscriber numbers and revenues enjoyed strong growth, driven largely by increased SMS and other data revenues and by increased minutes of use. Broadband continued to experience solid growth, with the USA still boasting the world’s largest broadband market, though its broadband penetration rank slipped further down the OECD tables. With analogue switch off scheduled for February 2009, digital TV continued to grow during 2008, with cable subscriber growth approximately twice that of satellite growth.
