Synopsis
This report was archived in early 2011; it has not been updated since 2010.
Thailand has dedicated a substantial amount of its resources to the building of a national telecommunications infrastructure over the last decade or so. The economic crisis of the late 1990s was certainly a setback to this long-term process. Nevertheless, the country recovered much of the earlier momentum and has been attracting foreign capital and expertise once more to assist in the continuing process of expanding and integrating its networks. More recently however the ongoing regulatory uncertainty in the local industry has been cause for concern and during 2010 investors and telecom operators were becoming increasingly cautious about committing capital in the Thai market. This report looks at where the industry is at the moment in terms of infrastructure and reviews the status of some of the players involved in building this infrastructure.
