Archived report: this report was archived in June 2004 and has not been updated since. Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) is the mobile services arm of the Telecom Italia Group. It is the largest mobile operator in Europe in terms of line numbers, and it ranks first in the world by GSM customer base. It is the third largest Italian company in terms of stock market capitalisation. It specialises in value-added services, including data and e-commerce applications over developing platforms, as well as increased expansion into foreign markets, particularly Brazil. In October 2000, TIM was awarded one of five UMTS licences put up for auction by the Italian Government, to provide third generation mobile services in Italy.
