Synopsis

We discuss specialised aspects of the HTTP protocol, including proxy servers, reverse proxies to accelerate web servers, the operation of cookies, log files and log file analysis programs. We introduce the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) and others which are based on HTTP, and discuss Web Services - server-to-server techniques which enable the creation of business applications distributed over multiple servers operated by different organisations.
