Synopsis
This report discusses disparate VoIP application fields including residential and SOHO, Wireless and Mobile, WiFi, PABX and Centrex replacement, and use in carrier backbone networks. Also examined is the traditional E.164 telephone numbering system, VoIP’s more flexible numbering (addressing) approaches and methods of mapping E.164 to VoIP addresses, including ENUM, DUNDi and E164.org. Major VoIP server systems including Asterisk, SER, SipX and YATE are also discussed.
