Synopsis
South Korea is considered a leader in Third Generation mobile technology and has the world’s highest percentage of mobile users on 3G. WCDMA, the second 3G standard to enter the Korean market after CDMA2000, became commercially available in December 2003, though the service initially failed to attract a large number of subscribers, even into 2006. By 2007, however, the introduction of the faster HSDPA platform was making these services more attractive and the 3G market had received a real boost as a result. This report examines the South Korean 3G market. This report also explores mobile voice and data services in South Korea, such as wireless Internet, SMS, MMS and PTT, as well as a range of mobile applications.
