Sky Channel provides a satellite sports broadcasting television service that telecasts horse-race meetings and other sporting events. It services cover both Australia and other international locations. The company’s history involves three separate satellite TV initiatives which all started in 1985/1986 as Narrowcasters under the Broadcasting Act. The company was purchased by TAB Limited in 1998. Sky Channel transmits via the Optus B3 satellite in digital format and is available at over 5,000 outlets each week throughout Australia. It also broadcasts sporting special events over a dedicated satellite channel. Sky Channel is divided into the four major business units: Sky Racing, Sky International, Sky Ringside, and Business TV.
