The dynamic nature of the mobile market in Singapore is reflected in the character of its three major operators - SingTel, Mobile One (M1) and StarHub. Even when growth appeared to have slowed somewhat in this highly competitive market, the three operators ensured that considerable effort went into value-added products and services. By early 2010 the number of mobile subscribers had reached seven million and a penetration rate of almost 140%. Whilst the market (and to some extent the operators) initially approached the launch of 3G in 2005 with a degree of caution, the 3G service offerings have been booming ever since. Coming into 2010, 3G services were growing at an annual rate of around 30% and made up 47% of the total mobile subscriber base. This report looks at the three big operators in Singapore’s mobile market.
