This report has been archived. It contains background information on the development of the broadband Internet market in Singapore going bcak to the 1990s. Over that period Singapore moved rapidly build to increase its broadband base and add strategic value. Singapore was, in fact, the first country in the world to deploy DSL broadband commercially when SingTel launched its Magix service back in 1997. After that early launch broadband in the island state did not take off as expected, especially given such an early start. Singapore managed, however, to put itself back on the broadband map again and has continued to be a strong influence in the regional broadband market, given its sound infrastructure and a national commitment to developing its broadband capability.
