Philippines - Broadband Market

Synopsis

Compared with many of its Asian neighbours, the Philippines had been moving slowly on the adoption of Internet. Of the estimated 7% of the population who constitute the Internet user population in 2008, only a fraction of these were using a broadband connection to go online. Nevertheless, with the data and Internet markets well positioned for growth, the country’s broadband market had finally started to expand, the annual increase in broadband subscribers running at in excess of 100% in successive years. However, for future growth to be sustainable the provision of reliable infrastructure remains critical. This report looks at the various projects and initiatives as the government continues to encourage development of broadband.
