Synopsis
Millicom International Cellular is an international investor in cellular telephony services, primarily in emerging markets. It has sought to establish an early presence in markets with little or no cellular service by applying for cellular licences, primarily through joint ventures with prominent local business partners. Its assets comprise cellular operations in Latin America, Asia and Africa. In addition, it has five high-speed wireless data businesses. Due to financial difficulties, the company has been selling off some of its operations, but returned to profitability in 2003.
