Synopsis
Marshall Islands National Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has a monopoly on the provision of all telecom services in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI). A digital TDMA 800 cellular service includes both fixed and mobile services and provides telephone service to some of the other islands in the Kwajalein Atoll where no fixed-line service is available. A GSM mobile network was launched in 2006. A potential agreement involving the Federated States of Micronesia and RMI proposes to run a fibre optic, submarine cable from Guam to Pohnpei, Kwajalein and Majuro. Please note that this report is updated very infrequently due to limited availability of information on the local telecoms market. Limited statistics are available.
