Synopsis
The building of Malaysia’s telecommunications infrastructure has seen extensive fibre optic networks installed across the length and breadth of the country. This report describes how the country has continued to allocate capital to invest in information technology and telecommunications infrastructure despite the setback of the economic crisis of the late 1990s. A prime example has been the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) project. No matter how difficult the economy became during that period, the government continued to find funding for the project. The end result has been the MSC strategy appears to have come through the economic crisis reasonably intact.
