Synopsis
KPN is the largest Dutch telecommunications company, offering a range of services for consumers as well as business customers. Its core activities are in the fixed network and in mobile, IP/data services in The Netherlands and in mobile services in both Belgium and Germany. During 2005, the company focused on upgrading the fixed network and on developing four growth services: Mobile, Data/IP and Internet, CRM and media services (ICM). Following financial problems relating to its huge debt, the company has in recent years concentrated on its core businesses and disposed of unrelated assets and activities. In 2005, KPN again began to invest in purchases to shore up its dwindling portfolio and strengthen its position in core markets. This report presents statistics and analysis for KPN in 2005 and early 2006, noting the effect of the country’s regulatory regime on its wholesale and retail activities, and evaluating its strategy for an all-IP network.
