Italy - Broadband and E-services

Synopsis

Archived report: this report was archived on 31 January 2005 and has not been updated. Material related to Italy’s broadband market is updated in the Italy - Broadband Market - Overview, Statistics & Forecasts report. The Italian broadband landscape differs from other major European countries because of the absence of cable infrastructure and unusually dense local loop infrastructure. Italy also has high population densities in its cities, with a high proportion of people living in apartment blocks, and this has supported the growth of FttH services. Italy also had the second largest net increase in broadband lines in the EU in 2003 – on the back of strong DSL growth and the launch of 3G services. This report presents historical statistics on each technology in Italy in 2004, as well as information on the burgeoning wireless broadband/Wi-Fi markets. The country’s adoption of e-commerce and e-government is also introduced.
