Synopsis

Archived report. This report was archived in 2008 and has not been updated since. The development of VoIP is followed in this report from its inception in 1994 to full IP networks that carry voice, data and video. Quality concerns are diminishing, and wider applications are being introduced, such as corporate VPNs. However large scale implementation will only take place over NGN/broadband networks, using triple play business models. Separately VoIP will become an integral product offering in most Internet media products. This report includes an historical summary, a look at some of industry players and an overview of VoIP’s development on a regional level. VoIP statistics and further analysis, including key trends are available from separate reports.
