Synopsis
Archived report. This report was archived in June 2004 and has not been updated. Telecommunications is rapidly moving away from being a platform for a range of services, such as telephony, data access, etc, and towards being a platform for e-services. It has moved from being a cost item on the balance sheet to being a business asset. As telecoms costs become an increasingly small element of e-business, the focus is moving away from telecommunications to e-services. Once this happens within a customer’s operation, outsourcing quickly appears on the agenda. The question is whether telcos are capable of moving into this market as the structure of their organisations often prevents them from successfully making this transition.
