Synopsis
Archived report. This report was archived in 2005 and has not been updated. Videoconferencing has been around since the late 1970s, but has failed to penetrate beyond the corporate world. Even here there are still a large number of systems that have been installed over the years but are hardly ever used. Audio-conferencing has been far more successful; especially since more enhanced voice services have been introduced during the 1990s. The future will be broadband-based video communication in the residential market. This will include tele-health consultations with local GPs and specialists, family gatherings across the country and across the world, home videos, etc.
