Radio schooling services were established in North America and Australia about 40 years ago, and there has been a gradual move towards remote educational services for those students who are not able to attend the traditional schools, escalating in the 90s with the development of the Internet. This report describes the present use of telecommunications to provide education, including telephone, Internet and videoconferencing. It lists the benefits and challenges of these technologies, organisations that are involved in promoting them, and forecasts for the future of this approach to learning.
