Synopsis
Archived report. This report was archived in 2006 and has not been updated. Despite the reluctance of banks to be involved with online transactions, one of the most successful on-line tools used to date by banks in the war against paper processing is EFTPOS. Advanced Electronic Cash Registers and integrated POS systems are rapidly replacing the traditional cash register with its manual credit/check authorisation and debit card equipment. Rechargeable smartcards will increase the use of EFTPOS facilities, with EFTPOS terminals possibly used to ‘re-charge’ the cards. This report discussed the advances in homebanking and its offshoots, together with the standards being used.
