Synopsis
Archived report. This report was archived in 2006 and has not been updated. During the 1980s, a large number of telecommunications companies became involved in international partnerships. These activities had more to do with protecting their turf than exploiting new business opportunities. By the turn of the millennium, most of these attempts had failed, and in general terms have created more frustration than goodwill amongst their multinational customers. In the meantime billions of dollars have been lost by the carriers involved. This report discusses the major alliances that have been formed, and their subsequent demise.
