Global - Mobile - Infrastructure - WLL (Archived)

Synopsis

This report describes a development in wireless infrastructure, Wireless Local Loop (WLL). It is a system that connects subscribers to the PSTN using radio signals. WLL has a much lower incremental investment cost than copper wires and it is much cheaper to deploy for areas with low subscriber density, yet it appears to have had success in very few locations. This report describes WLL, together with a discussion of its merits, future and technologies. The report contains research up until 2003. By that time new wireless broadband developments started to take over the developments in WLL, research is continued in those reports.
