Synopsis

Mobile communications commenced their development in the 1960s with analogue networks. These have been progressively converted to digital since 1996, with only the USA still retaining a significant analogue presence. This report discusses the history of mobile communication, the spectacular growth of digital usage and the technologies involved. It also briefly discusses some other aspects of digital mobile developments including mobile payphones, and activities of the Celcos to develop the market.
