Synopsis

Archived report. This report was archived in 2007 and has not been updated. In trying to stay ahead of developments in the fixed broadband market, the mobile industry is developing its own triple play models, where voice, data and video get bundled. For this the industry is developing 3¼G technologies such as High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA). Furthermore they are also linking fixed and mobile together on IP Multimedia System (IMS) allowing for mobile TV. Mobile is trying to carve out its own unique markets next to wireless broadband. However, wireless broadband currently has the edge, the question being - will it be able to deliver and/or will these two merge into 4G. This report provides an overview and analysis of triple play in the mobile sector, including a look at the emerging technologies that will make triple play possible.
