Global - Mobile Data - Telemetry & RFID

Synopsis

Archived report. This report was archived in 2010. Telemetry applications are expected to boom as ‘intelligent’ digital devices, which chatter away almost incessantly, exchanging all kinds of information automatically and transparently to the people around them. Data traffic between people and machines means that the global telecommunications network will soon resemble a worldwide computer network, rather than the voice-only mechanism for person-to-person communication it represented to its founders. RFID also has a promising future and is already in widespread use around the world. This report provides an introduction to telemetry and RFID and also describes other remote access services such as remote monitoring and remote sensing satellites. An overview of each service is provided, along with an example of its practical application.
