Synopsis

Most of the development of electronic purses has been done by three companies - Visa, Mastercard/Mondex and Proton. The two major operating systems used are MULTOS and Open Platform, although there are moves to develop a common technology. This report describes the development of e-cash, the major players and the operating systems used. It also gives an analysis by Paul on where the technology is going.
