Global - Broadband - Trends and Developments - Industry Structure

Synopsis

The emergence of broadband will have a structural impact on the migration of the entire information industry towards digital electronics. The industry will reorient itself in a functional and horizontal way. There will be a series of within- and cross-industry consolidations as major industry players position themselves for the future based on a chosen functional specialisation. The focus of the broadband (data) market will move to the consumer and SME market. Efficiency will require Triple Play models (access, basic services, content). Consumer power will see a change from supply to demand models.
