Synopsis

Archived report. This report was archived in 2006 and has not been updated. Next Generation Networks (NGN) developed from Virtual Private Networks (VPN) in the voice market and Value Added Networks (VAN) in the data market. In a market rapidly changing from telecom services to broadband applications a totally new operational structure is required. NGNs integrate telecoms with IT and form the core of this environment. NGNs enable the convergence of voice, data and video (triple play) by making it possible to have multiple services flow over the same network. This report presents research and an overview and analysis of the market. NGN infrastructure developments are discussed in a separate report.
