Global - Broadband - Infrastructure - FTTH deployments 2006

Synopsis

Archived report. This report was archived in 2006 and has not been updated. There is now no doubt that the current broadband explosion will lead to more developments in fibre networks. The current copper based networks simply can’t handle the increased capacities that are now flowing over their networks, and further highspeed broadband stimulates, such as video based communications will exasperate this. Many telcos are now at crossroads and over the next 12 to 18 months there will be a continuation of large scale fibre announcements from the various incumbent telcos around the globe. Japan leads the world in Fttx deployments with around 5 million homes connected in 2006. After a slow start, the US is now rapidly rolling out FttH, and some countries in Europe are developing faster than others. This report provides an overview of some the activities and deployments taking place around the world. Analysis of the current market and the various issues impacting the industry are available from separate reports.
