With the solid growth of Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL), DSL broadband is well on the way to becoming a global mass market. Competition from cable and the growing demand for low cost broadband has started to overcome that reluctance, and the use of DSL in its various versions is starting to grow quickly. By the end of 2005, there were almost 140 million DSL lines installed globally, and DSL subscriber levels grew by around 40%.
