Synopsis
Archived report. This report was archived in 2006 and has not been updated. Following the telco crisis, telcos realised that things were not going to improve in the near future. The latest area that these companies are pursuing is that of ‘network outsourcing’ and there are certainly some interesting elements to this. As far back as the late 1980s, I predicted that vendors and telcos would move closer together and that network outsourcing would eventually force structural separation with the vendors running these networks. Also included is an analysis by Malcolm Moore on the real value in outsourcing mainstream activities in a commercially based engineering business.
