Global - Analysis - Industry - Telecoms moving into 2005

Synopsis

This report was archived in May 2006. This report serves as a sequel to the articles I wrote about the telco crisis, the event that brought the boom of the late 1990s to an abrupt halt. In a rapidly commoditising market it is essential to embrace the nextgen trend towards intelligent networks, which is grid-shaped (like the Internet) and which includes shared resources and open network business models. New M&A are on the horizon as a new telco boom is approaching, driven by broadband. While progress has been relatively slow, the combination of DSL, VoIP, wireless broadband, better wholesale conditions and a more effective regulatory environment are going to produce significant changes in the period 2005-2008.
