Synopsis
Malcolm Moore questions the real value in outsourcing mainstream activities in a commercially based engineering business. The process of outsourcing is an expedient practice to make a business look good on paper, minimise the taxation burden for the business and those outsourced, and allow the business to focus on what it sees as its core business. While these practices may all be very good, the process of outsourcing needs to be managed very carefully, or the gurus in the company/business can easily be lost to outsourcing companies or businesses. He gives examples of what can go wrong if executive management loses touch with field practices, and how well it can be addressed. This report was archived in 2005.
