Global - Analysis - Industry - Successful telco scenarios

Synopsis

Archived report. This report was archived in 2008 and has not been updated since. Following deregulation, incumbent telcos have been using every device in their arsenal to retain their inefficient monopoly positions, causing significant delays to the development of broadband and the new products that it will allow, and probably hastening their demise. Following the crash of the early 00s and the continued development of wireless/mobile products, the telcos have less money to pursue their delaying tactics, and are starting to accept the need for improved broadband infrastructures and the future role of IP. Now is the time to make structural changes and position themselves strategically for the new opportunities that are emerging around convergence.
