Synopsis
Back in 2000 I said that the telco crisis could very well last two years, for which remark I was labelled a prophet of doom. As things turned out, I was too optimistic – the crisis persisted until 2003, but by 2004 the industry was still hovering at the bottom. The recovery is more profound in the corporate broadband and data segments and in particular in the SME section. Companies are investing in new data technologies in relation to VoIP, CRM, ASP and are looking at IT based task-sourcing models to create a more virtual organisation, to network employees, suppliers and customers into their organisation. Broadband based on nextgen networks (IP) is the key infrastructure for such developments. This report was archived in 2005.
