Synopsis

Archived report: this report was archived on 20 June 2005 and has not been updated. Researched material relating to France’s broadband market is available in the France - Broadband Market - Overview, Statistics & Forecasts report. France had one of the highest levels of broadband growth in Europe in 2004, largely on the back of surging demand and strong pro-competitive action from the regulator. This report presents a historical snapshot of the fixed and wireless broadband sectors in France in early 2005. Overall statistics are given based on data from the local regulator and ITU, and the focus is on cable modem, xDSL and wireless broadband developments. The leading service providers for each segment are also introduced and their estimated market shares are provided. Against this background, e-commerce and e-government developments are also introduced.
