Synopsis
In June 2009 I travelled to Europe (Germany, France, Belgium, The Netherlands). This trip was of particular interest, due to a number of developments that have taken place in the past six months. What struck me this time, more than ever before, was the lack of a European vision. As has happened throughout history, each European country has developed its own set of telecoms and media strategies, in general with no overall vision in relation to a trans-sector approach whereby telecoms infrastructure should also be used to address issues such a healthcare, education and the environment. A brief overview of the various stimulus initiatives is also provided.
