Synopsis
This report covers the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, a region that is heavily influenced by its geographical and political relationships. All three countries are expected to join the EU in May 2004 and have largely aligned their telecommunications regulation with that of the EU as a requirement. Operators from nearby Scandinavia have invested heavily in the region and now dominate the market. Estonia is the wealthiest of the three countries and is far in front in all measures of telecommunications development. It has particularly high Internet penetration, broadband usage and e-banking take-up.
