Synopsis
The Spanish telecom market is one of the larger markets in Europe and Portugal is a mid-sized market by European standards. Both markets have active and successful mobile phone industries, with penetration levels much higher then elsewhere in Europe. The two Internet and broadband sectors differ considerably, even though cable and xDSL services are available in both markets. The differences are likely to diminish due to Government infrastructure policy and industry marketing changes. This report also introduces the merger of Spain’s two satellite TV companies in an environment that saw the collapse of the only digital terrestrial TV operator.
